Sindh govt campaign against illegal weapons fails

KARACHI: The Sindh government’s campaign to collect illegal weapons from the citizens has failed as only 19 such weapons were surrendered till the end of deadline on October 12 despite lavish spending on media advertisement.

The campaign was launched three weeks ago with an aim to purge the province of illegal arms. The government asked the people to surrender their illegal weapons at the office of commissioner, deputy commissioner and police stations concerned voluntarily as no action would be taken before the deadline ends.

On Saturday, provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said that the government had no plans to extend deadline. He sad that strict action would be taken agansit those failed to surrender their arms.
