Libyan Al Qaeda terrorist in New York on 1998 bombings charges
Abu Anas al-Libi was indicted in Manhattan more than a decade ago on charges that he helped plan attacks of U.S. embassies in Africa
LIibyan Al Qaeda terrorist Abu Anas al-Libi has arrived in New York to face terror charges after being interrogated for a week on a Navy ship in the Mediterranean Sea, authorities said Monday.
Libi — who was grabbed in a daring daylight raid in Tripoli Oct. 5 by Delta Force raiders — is to be arraigned Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said.
The long-sought thug was indicted in Manhattan more than a decade ago on charges that he helped plan the bombings of U.S. embassies in Africa in 1998.
He assembled surveillance photos in Kenya that Osama Bin Laden used to orchestrate the bombing there that killed 200 people.
Libi is a computer whiz whose history with Al Qaeda would make him a valuable source of information for U.S. authorities, who questioned him aboard the USS San Antonio after his arrest.
Libi has longstanding health problems that will be evaluated, officials said.
